Acontecimentos principais:
O passado simples faz a história avançar: I opened the door and went inside.
Cena de fundo:
O passado contínuo descreve uma ação em andamento: It was raining when I left.
Acontecimento anterior:
O passado perfeito situa algo antes de outro momento: The bus had left before I reached the stop.
Interrupção:
Uma ação breve no passado simples pode interromper outra em andamento: I was cooking when the phone rang.

Leia a frase inteira. Esse método é mais confiável do que escolher apenas pela presença de *when* ou *before*.

Perguntas frequentes

Passado simples e contínuo podem aparecer juntos?

Sim. I was walking when I saw a friend*.
