Como falar com um médico em inglês
No médico, o primeiro passo é dizer o que você sente. Use frases curtas: I don't feel well, I have a headache, I have a sore throat, My stomach hurts. Para marcar a consulta, ligue e diga I'd like to make an appointment.
O médico faz perguntas e você dá detalhes. When did it start? It started two days ago. Where does it hurt? Here. Are you allergic to anything? Conte ao médico suas alergias e qualquer remédio que você toma: I'm taking some medicine.
No final, o médico dá conselhos. You should rest é uma boa ideia. You must drink a lot of water é muito importante. You have to stay in bed é necessário. You shouldn't go to work é uma má ideia. Escute quantas vezes tomar o remédio, como twice a day, e pergunte se não souber: Should I take it with food?
Aqui está um diálogo modelo. Doctor: What's the matter? Patient: I have a sore throat and a cough. Doctor: When did it start? Patient: It started two days ago. Doctor: Open your mouth, please. You should rest and drink a lot of water. Take this medicine twice a day, and come back in a week.
Perguntas frequentes
Qual é a diferença entre should, must e have to?
Should é um conselho: You should rest. Must e have to são mais fortes: You must drink water. You have to stay in bed. Nos conselhos do médico, should é o mais comum.
Como digo que algo dói?
Você pode dizer It hurts here, ou nomear a parte: My stomach hurts, my back hurts. Para a cabeça, a garganta e o dente, o inglês costuma usar uma palavra específica com have: I have a headache, I have a sore throat, I have a toothache.
O que significa What's the matter?
Significa «o que está acontecendo?». O médico pergunta isso no começo da consulta. Responda com o problema: I have a headache, ou I don't feel well.
Digo I have a fever ou I have a temperature?
As duas estão corretas. I have a fever é a frase comum. Também se diz I have a temperature, principalmente no inglês britânico.
