Como falar do clima em inglês
Em inglês fala-se do clima o tempo todo, porque é um assunto fácil e amigável. Para perguntar, diga What's the weather like? Para responder, use it e um adjetivo: It's sunny, it's cold, it's windy.
Com muitos substantivos do clima forma-se um adjetivo: sun vira sunny, rain vira rainy, cloud vira cloudy e wind vira windy. Use-os com o verbo to be: It was cloudy in the morning.
Para a temperatura, aprenda uma escala: warm, hot, cool, cold e freezing. Diga o número com degrees: It was 25 degrees yesterday afternoon.
O clima também serve para contar histórias no passado. Use o passado simples para os fatos (It rained all day) e o passado contínuo para a cena (It was snowing when we left the house). Há quatro estações: spring, summer, autumn (fall no inglês americano) e winter. Com uma estação use in: in winter, in the summer.

Como pergunto sobre o clima?
Diga What's the weather like? ou How's the weather? Responda com It's e um adjetivo: It's sunny. It's cold and windy. Para o passado, diga It was cloudy yesterday.
Por que dizemos it em It's raining?
Em inglês as frases precisam de um sujeito, então para o clima usamos it: It's raining, it's cold, it's snowing. Aqui it não significa uma coisa; é só o sujeito. Em português dizemos simplesmente «está chovendo» ou «está frio».
Qual é a diferença entre rain e rainy?
A palavra rain é um substantivo: We didn't go out because of the rain («a chuva»). A palavra rainy é um adjetivo: It was a rainy day («um dia chuvoso»). O mesmo acontece com sun e sunny, cloud e cloudy, wind e windy.
Diz-se autumn ou fall?
As duas formas estão corretas e significam outono. Autumn é mais comum no inglês britânico e fall é mais comum no inglês americano.
Qual é a diferença entre It was raining e It rained?
It was raining descreve o clima em um momento de uma história: It was raining when we left («estava chovendo quando saímos»). It rained é um fato completo: It rained all day yesterday («ontem choveu o dia todo»). Em uma história, use it was raining para descrever a cena.
