Use who para pessoas, which para coisas e where para lugares. Em muitas orações restritivas, that substitui who ou which.

Pessoas:
The woman who teaches us is kind. Em muitos casos, that pode substituir who.
Coisas:
The book which I bought is useful. Em muitos casos, that pode substituir which.
Lugares:
This is the café where we met. Where equivale a in/at which.
Orações restritivas:
Não use vírgulas se a oração identifica a pessoa ou coisa: The student who called is here.
Ordem das palavras:
Mantenha a ordem afirmativa: the man who lives next door, não the man who does he live next door.

Who, which, that e where em orações relativas restritivas

*The woman* pode ser vago; *the woman who helped us* deixa claro de quem falamos.

Use *who* para pessoas e *which* para coisas. Em muitas orações restritivas, *that* substitui qualquer um deles. Use *where* se o substantivo anterior indicar o lugar onde algo acontece: *the house where I grew up*. Se o próprio lugar for sujeito da ação, use *which*: *the house which fell down*.

Perguntas frequentes

Quando usar who em uma oração relativa?
