Loading the course word list…

These are the levels of the FluencyRoad course (A1–B1), not an official CEFR list. A word outside the course is not necessarily advanced.

What you type stays in your browser.

What the levels mean

Each word is marked with the level of the FluencyRoad course where it first appears: in a vocabulary topic, a lesson example, an exercise or a graded reading. These are the levels of our course, not an official CEFR list. A word marked “not in the course” is not necessarily advanced; it may simply be a word our lessons have not used yet.

Inflected forms are traced back to their base: went counts as go, children as child and cities as city. Names and numbers are not counted.

For teachers: adapt a text to your class

Paste a text you want to use and look at the share known by the end of each level. Reading is comfortable when almost every word is known; if the A2 figure is low for an A2 class, replace or explain the words in the list of words outside the course, or choose another text.

For learners: what you have already studied

Paste a text you want to read and see which words you have met in the course. Click a word to go to the unit that teaches it. To find out where to start, take the level test.

Frequently asked questions

Is this an official CEFR level checker?

No. It uses the levels of the FluencyRoad course (A1–B1), worked out from our own lessons. Official lists such as the English Vocabulary Profile may place some words at a different level.

Why is a common word marked as not in the course?

Because the course has not used it yet. The list grows with the lessons. A word outside the course can be easy; it just has no lesson here.

Does it work with B2 and C1 texts?

It will show how much of the text the course covers, but every word beyond B1 is grouped as “not in the course”. It does not grade advanced vocabulary.

Is my text sent anywhere?

No. The word list is downloaded to your browser and the text is checked there. Nothing you paste is sent or stored.
