Parts of the Body: Words You Need Every Day
The parts of the body are some of the first words you learn in English. You need them to describe people, to talk to a doctor and to understand simple instructions in a sports class.
Most of these words make a regular plural: one eye, two eyes; one hand, two hands. Two words are different: one foot, two feet and one tooth, two teeth. Hair is special too. For all the hair on your head, it has no -s: She's got brown hair.
To describe a person, use have got or has got: He's got blue eyes. She's got long hair. Use the verb to be with an adjective after the body part: His hands are big. My feet are cold.
In English, a part of your body usually takes my, your, his or her, not the: Her hair is long, not The hair is long. Fingers are on your hands and toes are on your feet, so English has two different words for them.
Learn the words in the lists above, listen to the examples, and then do the exercises. Start with the matching game, then choose the correct word and type the missing words.
